5 Signs That It's Time To Schedule Termite Control
Termites can cause significant damage to your property if left unchecked, so it's important to be vigilant for signs of their presence. Here are five signs that indicate it may be time to schedule termite control:
- Mud tubes: These narrow tubes, about the width of a pencil, are often found along walls, foundations, or pipes.
- Wood damage: Look for hollow-sounding wood, crumbling or damaged wood, particularly in areas like window sills, door frames, and baseboards.
- Swarmers: Termite swarmers are reproductive termites that leave the colony to find a mate and establish a new colony. They can be mistaken for flying ants but have distinct features.
- Frass: Termite droppings, resembling small pellets or sawdust, are often found near termite tunnels or areas of wood damage.
- Discarded wings: After swarmers establish a new colony, they shed their wings, which can be found near entry points like windowsills or doorways.
If you notice any of these signs, it's crucial to schedule a termite inspection promptly to prevent further damage to your property.
Inspection
Inspecting your home before providing treatment is important because it helps us determine if you have an active infestation in your house and alerts us to conditions in and around your house that could attract termites to your property. We’ll look inside and outside your home during our inspection, focusing on areas of moisture, the attic, crawl space, and conducive conditions.
Bait Station Treatment
Our main termite control method is the Sentricon® System with Always Active™, which is the #1 termite baiting system in the United States. We’ll place bait stations in the ground around the exterior perimeter of your house. When termites find the stations and take the bait, they alert other termites to its presence as well as bring the bait back to the nest. Eventually, the bait makes its way through the entire colony, and the active ingredient does its job of eliminating every termite. Sentricon® with Always Active™ comes with an annual inspection and renewal of the bait stations.
Liquid Termite Treatment
We also offer Termidor® liquid treatments to eliminate and prevent termites. We will dig a small trench in the soil around the outside perimeter of your house, fill it with the liquid treatment, then fill the trench back in to create a barrier of protection around your home. Additionally, if your house has a concrete slab foundation, we’ll drill small holes in the concrete and fill them with the liquid product. Our Termidor® treatments come with a one-year renewable warranty.
Wood Destroying Insect Reports
If you are in the process of buying a home, you might need a Wood Destroying Insect Report in order to have your home loan approved. We offer this service. We’ll carefully and thoroughly inspect the house to look for any signs of termites and termite damage. We’ll then write up the required report and provide you and any necessary parties with copies of the report.
